We emerge from the womb; a living organism, a reaching out to know. We are children not only of our mothers but of society, of nature, of the universe, of an awesome intelligent shaping beyond any simple theory or understanding. Much of our early life was spent fabricating an identity, a sense of self. Gradually the emphasis shifted to protecting it. Our families, society and the educational system have reinforced this so that we have become experts at recognizing and manipulating identity. We are so busy trying to know who we are, we rarely experience what we are.
Meditation cuts right across this habit stream. It re-awakens question into the wholeness of being. It is not merely for dealing with problems, or for relieving stress, or for giving you more control over your life. It is to awaken to the universal and multidimensional story of what you are. This is the real path of health.

Meditation classes with Kathryn Shain & Bill Genat
Classes in Melbourne: Hawthorn and Melbourne University; and on the Mornington Peninsula
At Open Path we welcome everyone wishing to explore meditation and its integration into everyday life.
In our teachings we draw upon many of the planet's great spiritual traditions, in particular the Buddhist tradition and its integration with contemporary western ways of understanding and lifestyles.
Meditation is not just for the meditation hall. Our aspiration is for people to bring awareness developed in meditation into every aspect of their daily lives - for personal healing and transformation.
Our centre in Hawthorn in Melbourne and our teaching space on the Mornington Peninsula offer dedicated spaces for practice, study and the shared exploration of the path of healing.
All you need to come with is an open mind and a willingness to explore.
Seachange - Our move to Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsular is proving to be a really worthwhile experience. The teaching house has already hosted two rich and exciting weekend retreats with visiting teachers Tarchin Hearn and Leander Kane.
We are pleased to announce that Tarchin is returning to Melbourne and Shoreham in October this year to conduct city teachings and an eight day retreat in Shoreham.
We are still teaching in Hawthorn each Wednesday evening and once a month on a Sunday morning. Please see 'courses' for more information.
